Dearest, My four-year-old is way more spiritually advanced than me. Watch this and you will see what I mean.  When I was a kid, most of my wishes were kid-wishes: I’d wish for infinity wishes or the ability to fly under my own power. But I also remember wishing for a warm, dry place to sleep. Though we had a great childhood full of adventures and our mom loved us fiercely, sometimes our family simply didn’t have the money to put a roof over our heads and from time to time we found ourselves homeless and sleeping in a tent.  I'm an adult with kids of my own now, but I still remember what it's like to wish for a place...

Thankful

It’s that time of year, where we come together as families and try, and midst all the food and, sometimes passive aggressive comments and avoidance of political talk, we remember to be thankful. Yes, the first thanksgiving was a feast for the pilgrims and the Native Americans, and our cultural memory of it is idealized. Update on Rosie from New Leash On Life USA

When Stands told us New Leash on Life USA had been chosen as the spotlight charity, we were so honored! We were so excited to realize people care as much about second chances as we do! New Leash rescues dogs and sends them to prison. There, they are trained by inmate handlers. The relationship between inmate and dog is hard to put to words, but this much we know—it’s a win-win, because somehow they rescue each other. Rescuing dogs from a shelter never gets old. We know within only a few short months the dogs that are sad and lonely will soon be jumping and playing with a family who loves them. But when staff from New Leash go into...

"My name is Dr. Gupta, and I am a neurologist. You have a rare condition called Guillain-Barré Syndrome. I am going to be honest with you: there is a very real chance you will not survive the week. I am admitting you to ICU, we need to act fast."This was March 26th, 2016, the third time in my life I was in a hospital emergency room being told I may not survive the week. This Stands campaign is graciously supported by my Once Upon a Time friends in the cast, crew, and writers’ room, as we raise resources and awareness for this crippling condition. It is with tremendous emotion and humbled gratitude that I thank all of you in the Oncer...
